Glass Gallery at the Victoria and Albert Museum

Pringle + Richards Architects has recently completed the Glass Gallery at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Project Architect Penny Richards worked with museum curators to re-plan the original Grade I listed gallery, completed by Aston Webb in 1909. A spectacular steel-framed mezzanine floor - with glass stair treads, floor and balustrade - has been inserted to increase the exhibition space. The sculptural balustrade has been designed and made by Danny Lane using Pilkington's glass. Whitby & Bird acted as structural engineer, with Claremont Construction as contractor. The Glass Gallery open to the public on 20 April.
